pick an abstract noun to explore: justice, freedom, creativity, compassion

make direct analogies: ___ is like _____ because  

personal analogies: pretend to be the object, make "I" statements as object

compressed conflict: choose two words or ideas that are opposites, but together, and explore by making more direct comparisons
